Though Antony Mitchell’s soothing voice suggests he’d rock a Phil Collins karaoke contest, don’t let his warmth fool you: The 44-year-old personal trainer and owner of Peak Performance isn’t going to let you coast through a breezy workout. Antony is going to make sure you get your money’s worth—a toned physique and the emotional perks that accompany it.
Antony describes his initial interest in professional fitness as a personal desire to know the body physically and emotionally, and has been working in the field since 1989. When Peak Performance opened its doors in 1993, Antony got to live his ultimate dream: running a business that changed lives daily.
Now Antony loves being a positive fixture in the community, and Villa Park loves him back (first-time clients quickly become regulars and he’s got no shortage of positive praise on local websites). The only thing Antony loves more than helping others reach their fitness goals? Being a dad.
Speaking with Antony, it quickly becomes clear that the man has genuine passion for making a difference in people’s lives. When a client with low self-esteem or an overwhelmed attitude walks through his doors, he makes it a point to help them understand their individual potential. “Helping people do what they initially didn’t believe was possible is an extremely gratifying experience.”
So, what can newbies expect from a personal training session at Peak Performance? “A memorable experience unlike anything they’ve ever tried,” Mitchell says. “And an education that will result in a desire to really change. Reshaping your body requires reshaping your mind, so mentoring is as important as the training. You can come to Peak Performance with a broken-down body, but you’ll leave with a renewed spirit and perspective.”
