This month Disney Resorts announced a $5 million gift to CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County). The donation will go toward an expansion that includes a Disney-themed lobby. Nearly a dozen Disney employees are working on an interactive lobby that will include beloved cartoon characters. Last year Disney created a similar lobby for Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando.
“This is just perfectly aligned,” said Disneyland Resort president George Kalogridis, who is also a member of the CHOC board. “We love, of course, to entertain children. The majority of our philanthropic efforts are centered on children.”
Last year CHOC received the largest donation in its history from retired investment banker Robert Tidwell. Tidwell’s $30 million donation was a welcome addition to CHOC’s $125 million fundraising campaign. Hyundai also opened their pockets for CHOC, offering up $10 million for cancer care.
With Disney’s donation, CHOC has raised $100 million, and has until June of next year to raise the additional $25 million.
